BeeIN on the way to developing an innovative heat pump. The RES multi-distributor develops a network of partners

Nov 17, 2023

After four years of activity and gaining experience in the heat pump sector, BeeIN is taking a step towards developing its own energy-efficient device. The company listed on the NewConnect market is considering building a research and development center in Poland and launching the production of efficient heat pumps with parameters adapted to European climatic conditions. At the same time, BeeIN consolidates the market of local distributors and develops a network of installers.

It's time for new solutions

In May 2023, a Polish company providing renewable energy solutions to 20 countries announced the commencement of work on creating its own, innovative heat pump. The decision was the result of several years of cooperation with installers and service technicians of heat pumps of leading global brands distributed by beeIN. The experience gained has allowed the company to identify areas where the operation of heat pumps can be improved, including: by increasing their efficiency, energy efficiency (reducing energy consumption), safety of use and reducing the negative impact on the natural environment.

– In the era of the increasingly professionalized renewable energy market, companies that invest in innovation will achieve a long-term competitive advantage. Our ambition is to be among the companies that set trends and are the first to offer customers new generation solutions. We consistently strive for this by working with a team of scientists from the Warsaw University of Technology on an innovative heat pump, the creation of which will generate value for both our customers and Shareholders - explains Michał Sochacki, President of the Management Board of beeIN SA

On May 16, 2023, the company established cooperation with the Faculty of Building Installations, Hydrotechnics and Environmental Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology. The concluded agreement opens the possibility of jointly conducting research and development work for at least 5 years. Their goal will be to develop a solution with reduced energy consumption and to introduce an innovative device to the market that will contribute to improving air quality and climate protection.

Heat pumps for home and business

BeeIN owes its dynamic development to the strategy based on "squared diversification". Its first branch is the diversification of a range of carefully selected products from the renewable energy sector, which combines the use of the latest technologies. The second branch is the geographical diversification of the company's activities, gradually expanding to new foreign markets.

In the area of innovation, beeIN also focuses on diversification and strives to achieve a leading position on the market of innovative, energy-saving and more effective heat pumps addressed to retail and industrial customers.

– We strive to create heat pumps with lower power, air/water type, intended for individual customers, and heat pumps with higher power, brine/water type, which will be used in industrial facilities, hospitals, nurseries, schools and housing communities – says Jan Paweł Lisicki, Member of the Supervisory Board of beeIN SA

Research that can revolutionize the market

The planned activities assume a close connection between construction works and theoretical analysis and laboratory tests. In the research and development phase, measurement verification of the devices' operating parameters is planned, which will allow to assess the correctness of the assumptions. Thanks to it, researchers will also obtain an answer regarding the expected effectiveness of the developed solutions.

– Heat pumps will be adapted to work in IoT systems, with the possibility of remote management, which will improve the comfort and safety of operation commonly expected by users, and will also enable remote adaptation of the device's operation to local conditions. This will also contribute to achieving the best possible performance parameters, including reducing energy consumption. An important aspect of the project is also the development of research and development facilities that will allow testing devices and carrying out work aimed at developing and further developing new heating and cooling devices of various types using heat pumps - says Dr. Eng. Jacek Hendiger, R&D Team Manager.

The heat pumps being developed will be able to be integrated with existing local heating systems. Devices with increased efficiency will also be adapted to the specific climate in regions of Europe where winter temperatures occur. The company assumes that introducing new devices to the market will reduce heating costs, increase the availability of heat pumps for middle-income people and ultimately accelerate the thermal modernization of buildings. According to beeIN representatives, new devices can significantly change the heat pump market.

– The introduction of energy-saving heat pumps to the market, in which we use working fluids with a smaller (negligible) impact on the natural environment, may initiate a qualitative change on the market of these devices in Poland and even Europe. This applies in particular to the currently rarely used brine/water heat pumps, whose new generation may create a new market for heat pumps - says Jan Paweł Lisicki, Member of the Supervisory Board of beeIN SA

A new generation of ecological heating devices

– The heat pump will use a working medium with the lowest possible environmental impact factor GWP (Global Warming Potential), and the selection of the factor will take into account both the high efficiency of the device and the safety of use – adds Dr. Eng. Jacek Hendiger, Head of the research team.

The new generation of heat pumps, which the Polish company is working on together with scientists from the Warsaw University of Technology, will be safer for users and the environment thanks to the elimination of highly explosive propane. Currently ongoing research into the use of the new working medium takes into account the improvement of the operating parameters of heat pumps and planned changes to EU regulations. Their aim is to introduce a ban on the use of certain refrigerants that contribute to the greenhouse effect and thus accelerate climate change.

– The innovative design of the heat pump provides for the implementation of transcritical and/or subcritical circulation of working media with a negligible GWP (Global Warming Potential) value, including natural factors and their solutions. We also plan to develop technical solutions, algorithms and control methods to adjust the phase transformation temperature to the prevailing weather conditions and the building's thermal load. An important element of the work will also be the optimization of the evaporator defrosting process in order to ensure the highest energy efficiency of the installation - explains Dr. Eng. Marian Rubik from the Faculty of Building Installations, Hydrotechnics and Environmental Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology.

Where will the beeIN investment be located?

Currently, the company is carrying out research together with scientists from the Warsaw University of Technology to develop innovative heat pump technologies. BeeIN SA also submitted an application to the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development for a grant to implement innovative solutions in the area of these devices and to build a research, development and production base in the SMART Path competition implemented under the FENG Program.

– Our goal is to create an innovative heat pump and build infrastructure in Poland that will enable the production of devices. We plan to locate our R&D research center in the Siedlce commune, where we come from and where our company is registered. Its construction will be an important event not only for us, but also for the local community, because it will create new jobs and increase the quality of life of local residents. We hope to obtain a grant under the SMART Path, which will allow us to achieve our strategic goals related to this investment. However, we are also open to other ways of financing this project in the event of failure to obtain a grant from PARP - explains Michał Sochacki, President of beeIN.

The multi-distributor of renewable energy devices develops a network of partners

The company implements development plans in a holistic way in various areas including renewable energy solutions, including the heat pump sector. Thanks to fruitful cooperation with leading producers of renewable energy components and heat pumps, including: DAIKIN, RBM and SPRUN select, which it offers with assembly and monitoring services via a mobile application, is gradually increasing the scale of foreign expansion. At the same time, it does not lose sight of the domestic market, developing an innovative technological solution with increased energy efficiency and expanding the network of local distributors.

– We invite distributors of renewable energy solutions and installers who would like to become certified beeIN Partners to cooperate with us. We have already introduced a free training program for ambitious installers who want to increase their competences to meet the growing market demands. In the future, Partners cooperating with beeIN will have the opportunity to test our innovative solutions and will be the first to receive access to innovative products that we plan to introduce to sale. I cordially encourage all installers interested in the latest trends in the renewable energy industry to contact our company - says Michał Sochacki, President of beeIN.

The expansion of the partner network is an example of the implementation of the company's assumption that access to the website should be as easy as to the sales network of heating devices. beeIN's cooperation with installers and service technicians will also provide customers with professional sales and after-sales service for new generation devices, which may revolutionize the heat pump market in the future.

Prospective direction of development

According to data provided by Port PC, in 2022 the heat pump market increased by 120% y/y, and almost every third heating device sold at that time was a heat pump. Air/water devices were the most popular, with over 2022 of them sold in 188. (for comparison, the number of all heat pumps purchased in 2010 was 10; it has been gradually increasing since then).

– Heat pumps are currently the most effective heating solution in terms of energy and economy. These environmentally friendly devices contribute to the complete decarbonization of building installations, which in turn is part of the pursuit of climate neutrality by 2050, including: in the European Green Deal. Data from the report of the International Energy Agency indicate that fossil fuels are currently used to heat most buildings in the world, which shows the enormous potential of heat pump technology - says Dr. Eng. Marian Rubik from the Warsaw University of Technology, participating in research on a new generation of heat pumps.

The above-mentioned report identifies milestones in the energy transformation process, the implementation of which translates into an increase in the number of installed heat pumps to 600 million units in 2030 and 1,8 billion units in 2050. Forecasts regarding the development of the heat pump market in Poland are also optimistic, as shown in the chart below.

The popularization of ecological heating devices is supported by legal regulations and subsidy and relief programs for solutions from the renewable energy sector, which support the energy transformation.

– However, the main reason for the consistent increase in heat pump sales is savings related to heating costs. In the case of new buildings with surface heating installations, heat pumps allow you to reduce bills by up to 50% compared to the costs incurred when using boilers fired with wood pellets, natural gas or fuel oil. The development of the heat pump market in Poland and Europe translates into the need to increase the domestic production of modern, energy-saving heat pumps. The projects undertaken by the beeIN company fit into this trend - sums up Dr. Eng. Marian Rubik from the Faculty of Building Installations, Hydrotechnics and Environmental Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology.
